Kikugiri has long been used as a noble family crest. The arabesque pattern expresses "prosperity and longevity" because it draws a curve while the vine grass is intertwined and has a strong vitality.

The fact that the annual rings of the logs are firmly tripled shows the strength of vitality.

Kiribuki has long been a harbinger of good news coming from the sea, which is boldly expressed.

Four patterns are surrounded by a hexagonal shell. The turtle shell represents longevity and auspicious signs, as it is said that "a crane is a thousand years and a turtle is a million years", and it is an auspicious pattern. The pattern drawn inside has the following meanings.

Since the circles are connected, it is an auspicious pattern that shows harmoniousness, harmony, and ties, and the ties and connections are as valuable as the cloisonne (meaning seven treasures in Buddhism).

What is Nishijin-ori?

It is a yarn-dyed woven fabric made in Nishijin, Kyoto, and its history begins in the 5th and 6th centuries and develops into the Heian period.
The weaving craftsmen who evacuated due to the Onin War that occurred during the Muromachi period resumed weaving at the site of Nishijin, so they became known as "Nishijin-ori".

It was designated as a national traditional craft in 1976.

The charm of Nishijin-ori

● Colors with various colored threads
Nishijin-ori is woven with beautifully dyed colored threads. This is the reason why it is famous as a colorful Nishijin-ori.

● Precisely woven patterns
The Nishijin-ori patterns are woven with employment patterns that have been used for costumes and furnishings of public houses since ancient times, and woven fabrics brought from China during the Muromachi period, and are splendid during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. There are a wide variety of things, such as free things born from hobbies. The pattern has various meanings and is considered to be a lucky charm.

Another feature of Nishijin -ori is that it uses a "high-mix low-volume" production method.
When the jacquard machine was introduced in the Meiji era, it continued to make great strides while preserving tradition, such as developing new techniques, and continues to produce excellent design textiles suitable for the present age .

Mori-san's Nishijin-ori

The Nishijin-ori used in the Kyoto mat is the Nishijin-ori of "Mori-san Co., Ltd.", which was founded in the 10th year of the Taisho era and is a traditional craft of Nishijin-ori brocade.

In modern life, we design with the theme of "Making Nishijin brocade a more familiar woven fabric" , weaving and selling.

I'm Megumi Otani (MEgU), CEO of Handy Style Co., Ltd.

Based in Kyoto, I am active as a yoga and golf fitness instructor.

It has been more than 20 years since I moved to Kyoto. I realized that even if my friends with wonderful traditional craftsmanship are close to me, I rarely come into contact with such Japanese products in my daily life.

I want to deliver the skills of Japanese craftsmen who tremble when touched to the world through the creation of wellness products by yoga instructors. With that in mind, we launched "Kyorinren ".
